My Current Go-To Makeup Removers

Back in the day I was a disgusting little human and never took my makeup off before bed. I would apply makeup before school, sleep with it on and apply more over the top the next morning. I know, I’m cringing at the thought of it too. Nowadays I cannot go a day without taking my makeup off at the end of the day (except for those nights where I go out clubbing and completely forget to oops). I switch and change when it comes to makeup removers, there’s so many different ones out there on the markets now, and I just love trying a bunch out. I have rounded up a few of my go-to makeup removers that I’ve been reaching for more often recently.

I have never been a great fan of makeup wipes and I tend to stick to the micellar waters/oil based cleansers as I feel they are much gentler for my sensitive skin. Garnier have a massive selection of Micellar Waters available in Boots and Superdrug, I can say that I have tried every single one from the collection and I love them all. I mainly go for the oil infused micellar water however if I’m honest, it wasn’t in my local shops so I just picked this one up instead. It works just as well as the others and it leaves your skin feeling hydrated and free from any makeup residue.

For someone who has normal to dry skin, I like to use products that will help to hydrate my dry patches. Oil based cleansers have been one of my favourites to use on those days where my skin needs a bit of a ‘pick me up’. Before trying this cleanser, I was very skeptical about it as I thought it was just going to leave me looking like a huge greasy mess but I was wrong. Once you rinse this off, your skin is left feeling soft, smooth and hydrated without any greasy residue left. It breaks down and dissolves your makeup nicely and it’s gentle to use on and around your eye area.

Clinique have always been one of my favourite high end skincare brands. I tend to get a fair few of allergic reactions when trying out some new products however this has never happened with a Clinique product. This product is a gentle, milky cleanser which can be used with or without water to dissolve makeup. I would say that I don’t like using this for removing eye makeup as such because it doesn’t seem to get rid of that stubborn mascara very well. For face makeup though? Works like a dream. Massaging this over dry skin gives and rinsing off with warm water gives the best results.

Can you tell I love Garnier skincare? This was a recent purchase of mine and when I say recent, I mean I bought it 2 days ago however I feel like it needs to have its own little mention as I adore this product. It’s basically the exact same as the original micellar water but in a gel wash form and I actually think it works a lot better when it comes down to removing makeup. I have been using this for the past two days since I bought it, and so far it hasn’t broke me out which is always a good sign. I cannot explain how easy and quick it is to take my makeup off with this. It dissolved my makeup within seconds and rinsed off easily with warm water. The one thing I would say is that it stung my eyes a tad but I think that was purely down to the fact I used way too much. I felt like there was no need to moisturise afterwards either as it left me with the perfect amount of hydration for my skin.

5 Things on My Bucket List

I’m a huge fan when it comes down to list making. I can sit in my bedroom for hours on end writing down lists and coming up with a bunch of new ones. I felt inspired to write this post as I recently came across my old art journal that I pretty much used all the time. I consider myself to be a very creative and hands on person, I mainly used the journal during the times when my anxiety would be at its highest. It was a way of releasing any negative thoughts. One of my favourite pages from the journal is my bucket list page, I wrote down a bunch of things that I wanted to do at some point in my life. Looking back at that page, I realise how quickly things can change as most of the things I wrote on there, I’d still love to do, however throughout the years I have wanted to do a bunch of more important/different things. I don’t know about you but I love reading what others have on their bucket lists. Maybe I’m just nosey. Here are 5 things that are currently on my bucket list:

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to visit Australia. Maybe do some travelling out there and volunteer. Australia have so many landmarks that I would love to see such as the Great Barrier Reef, Sydney Harbour Bridge and Daintree Rainforest as well as many more. They have great experience opportunities where you can learn to surf or even volunteer at the wildlife and look after koala bears. I need to make this happen at some point!

How cool would this be? I would like to just take a few hours out of my day to write a letter to myself. Write about what I’m doing in that moment, talk about my job and my relationships with my boyfriend, family and friends. I’d like to write down every little detail about my life as it currently stands and then open it up again 10 years down the line. A lot can happen in 10 years therefore I personally think it would be very cool to see how much life has changed since then. I don’t know why I haven’t done this sooner.

This is a recent one that I’ve added to my bucket list because it’s genuinely something I would love to do in life. I have never been to any blogging events before however I have seen a ton of bloggers talk about how much fun they are and the pictures that are taken always look amazing. I feel like it would be a great way of getting myself and my blog out there and I’m the type of person who loves meeting new people. I recon I’d really enjoy it.

Now, I’m not a runner lol. That’s why I’m actually surprised with myself that I actually would like to run a marathon at some point in my life, it has always been on my mind and I’d love to achieve it. My boyfriend has ran 4 marathons in total, all for great causes and I think that has inspired me to do it also. Of course, I’d have to train my absolute butt off in order to complete it but I just know that I will feel so proud of myself if I ever manage to do it. Even more proud knowing the money I make is going to a great charity of my choice.

Have you ever just wanted to pack your bags, forget life for just one moment and go on a long spontaneous road trip with either your significant other or friends? Whilst some may consider a road trip tiring, it can actually be really fun especially when you’re with the right people and if you have good music blasting out in the car. Going on a non-stop road trip provides an incredible view of the country and makes you realise how many amazing places there are.

What I Would Tell My 15 Year Old Self

Let’s say you could go back in time… cool right? But what sort of things would you tell to your younger self? 6 years ago, I was a shy/awkward little 15 year old teenager who had no idea where life was going to take me. I made some pretty dumb mistakes and I use to cry over the stupidest of things. If you had the chance, what would you say to your 15 year old self? Here’s a few things that I’d say…

1  .    You have such lovely, thick hair. DO NOT dye it! It’ll only just become thinner and dryer in the years to come.

2  .    Stop crying over him. It may seem like the end of the world but I promise you someone a lot better will come along very soon and make you the happiest you’ve ever been.

3  .    Honey. That pale blue eyeshadow with that glittery eyeliner does not compliment you in the slightest.

4  .    Stop being a slob and just apply for jobs. You have nothing to worry about, you will get there in the end. You never know if you never try.

5  .    You think you’ll be moved out by the time you turn 20/21? Nope. Not going to happen. It’s too expensive. Which brings me onto my next point – start saving now.

6  .    Some friends will come and go. You’ll drift apart and may never see them every again. But you will be okay with that because you best friend will stick around forever.

7  .    Maybe invest in some dry shampoo for your greasy-ass side swept fringe that you don’t stop touching every 2 minutes!

8  .    It’s hard but stop getting so upset over those d*^ks that keep calling you fat. You’re going to lose weight and they have still got an ugly personality so, who wins?

9  .    You’re going to experience a lot of rough patches throughout life. Don’t dwell on them, they will eventually pass.

1  . TAKE YOUR GOD DAMN MAKEUP OFF. Don’t constantly sleep with it on and then apply more over the top the next morning. (yes I really did this) Who even am I?

1  .   You will constantly get told that your lips are “too big”. Embrace it. Plump lips are all the hype right now.

1  .   You’re going to be rubbish at maths but that’s okay.

1  .   Your anxiety is extremely bad right now but you will get help and you won’t go through it alone.

1  .   Stop whatever you’re doing and don’t send that text. The dreaded 3am texts where you’re not actually thinking straight. Just don’t do it.

1  .   Please don’t pluck your eyebrows to oblivion. Or just go to a professional.

1  .   House parties are great. Although, you don’t need to get absolutely slaughtered to have a good time. You won’t remember anything the next day and you’ll feel like crap.

1  .   Make the most out of family time. Throughout everything you go through, family will always be there at the end of the day. They’re your rock. Don’t take advantage of it.

1  .   Thigh gaps? Stop stressing. You don’t need them.

1  .   Say yes more.
What would you tell your 15 year old self if you had the chance?

Why I Loved La La Land So Much

Those who know me, would know that I’m a massive fan of musicals. When I found out they were releasing a musical that starred Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, I was all over it and immediately couldn’t contain my excitement. I went in with the intention of not knowing anything about the film except for the fact that it was a musical and it featured two of my favourite actors. I came out of the cinema feeling so many different emotions. I completely fell in love with the story line, the characters and the soundtrack. I then went to watch the film all over again 2 days later. I’m not sure why I’m only just writing about this now seeing as the hype probably has died down but whatever. Just a quick disclaimer: this post is probably going to be filled with spoilers (I’ll try not to add so many) so if you haven’t seen this movie yet then I’d highly suggest you to come back to this once you’ve watched it.

The film focuses around two main characters, Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) who is a passionate jazz pianist with a whole-hearted ambition to open up his own jazz club. We then have Mia (Emma Stone) a talented aspiring actress who constantly rushes between her job at the coffee shop in the Warner Bros lot whilst trying to fit in all these auditions that don’t seem to go to plan. Two ambitious people seem to find their way to each other.

There’s no mistaking that this film is a musical from the start. The opening scene is at a traffic jam, and all of a sudden attractive, young people start dancing and singing to the song “Another Day of Sun” (which is one of my favourites). It made me feel excited for what was next to come and the song was very upbeat that it kind of made me want to get up and dance with them. Calm yourself Charlotte, you’re in the cinema. So this traffic jam ends up being the one that Mia and Sebastian are both in and they both lock eyes onto each other when he aggressively beeps his horn at her for not moving the car and she gives him the finger. You see, I adore the fact that Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were casted in this movie as I’ve always loved them two as an on screen couple. Especially after watching ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’.

I love the way that they approached Mia and Sebastian’s relationship realistically and not just like every other romantic comedy film. I feel like the ending to this film was a bit conflicted but we’ll get down to that in a minute. I also really enjoyed how visually stunning the film was. It’s a piece of art. From the charming and elegant performances from both actors to the costumes and the beautiful clothes they were constantly dressed in and also to the flawless dance sequences they shared together was all just incredible to watch.

The film as a whole made me feel incredibly inspired and that was mainly down to the characters personalities. They were so ambitious to achieve their dreams and they never gave up no matter what the circumstances were. However the closer they were to success, the further they grew apart. Which takes me to the ending which somewhat disappointed a few people (please don’t read this if you haven’t watched it). Fast forward 5 years and they’ve both achieved their dreams which is great, but Mia and Sebastian sadly are not together anymore and that literally breaks my heart just typing that. Mia is a happily married wife and mother… and actress whilst Sebastian focused on his jazz club. The ending gave me so much sadness yet joy at the same time. Of course the sad part being the fact that after everything, they broke up. The happiness it gave me though knowing that they both managed to achieve what they wanted in life. Mia walks into a newly opened club with her now husband, and shortly realises that its Sebastian’s club. They both lock onto each other’s eyes and after a few moments, Sebastian starts playing there song on the piano making Mia dream of a life with Sebastian and what it would be like if things worked out differently, unfortunately and realistically somethings in life don’t go the way you want them to go. Before Mia leaves the club she takes one last glare at Sebastian and just smiles. It was a smile as if to say ‘We did it’ and that broke my heart. I burst into tears after watching that moment for the second time however it was so beautifully filmed. I give huge props to director Damien Chazelle for creating such a wonderful masterpiece, I can definitely see why it was nominated for 14 Oscars.

If you haven’t seen this movie yet, please go see it. I hope you all equally enjoy it as much as I did, and I hope you come out with a sense of inspiration.

Here’s to the ones who dream”

Favourite Products For Dry Skin

Over the years, I have tried many different products to help tackle my dry skin problems. Some of them didn’t work out where as others worked really well for me. I have pretty much dealt with dry skin ever since I started to wear makeup which was around 8 years ago. I have rounded up some of my favourite products which work well for me and have made a world of a difference when it comes down to tackling with dry skin.

Nuxe Paris Crème Prodigieuse – This product is an anti-fatigue moisturising cream which I apply every morning onto my face and neck. It contains an innovative complex of anti-oxidants and active ingredients that work to relieve stressed complexions while hydrating and refreshing your skin. You only need the tiniest amount to cover your face, and it’s one of those creams that sink into the skin within seconds leaving no tacky residue behind. I have also noticed that it seems to give me a more matte complexion without drying out my skin even more.

Elemis Hydra-Boost Day Cream – I like to switch around my day creams sometimes. If I’m not using my Nuxe Paris cream then I’ll immediately turn my attention to this one instead. It’s a super hydrating, anti-oxidant rich day cream which helps to provide continuous nourishment and moisturisation to leave my skin feeling hydrated, smooth and supple all day long. This one takes a little bit longer to sink into the skin as it has a more liquid consistency to it, however it leaves my skin feeling super soft throughout the whole day.

Amie Naturally Kind Deep Pore Exfoliating Polish – I believe that using an exfoliator on your skin once a week (especially when you have dry skin) works absolute wonders. I came across this exfoliating polish in one of my Birch box purchases and it has helped my skin feel and look smoother. It’s a deep cleansing treatment containing natural rice granules that work deep-down into pores to lift away dirt, oil and impurities – revealing clearer and smoother skin. It’s recommended to use once or twice a week. I normally wash my face with Clinique Facial Wash with warm water beforehand to open up any pores and then use this straight after to buff away at any dirt that’s clogged into my pores. Using this also makes a huge difference in how my makeup applies – it blends more easily and my pores are less visible.

Vaseline Lip Therapy – I am someone who wears lipstick on a daily basis, therefore I find it extremely important to take care of my lips too. My lips crack and flake every day and it gets a lot worse during the colder months. To prevent that, I like to use a lip scrub and then my favourite product in the world… Vaseline. I like buying them in the little tube applicators as I find them more travel friendly and easier to use. I also like the ones that contains SPF.

Merci Handy new wave – Not only do I get dry skin and dry lips but I also suffer with dry hands. I always without a doubt, carry around a hand cream with me wherever I go. Recently, I’ve been using this one by the brand Merci Handy (mainly because it smells like bubble-gum) but what I love most about this hand cream is that it contains tiny little blue beads which help to exfoliate your hands leaving them feeling hydrated for a good few hours. The scent lasts for ages too and I always get asked what ‘perfume’ I’m wearing when actually it’s just the smell of my hand cream!

It’s currently 2am whilst I’m writing this. I can’t sleep. My brain is overthinking once again and I’m feeling quite anxious. My life isn’t perfect. I always seem to be very happy and bubbly around others and I may come across as happy in my posts or on social media but I have my crap days just like everyone else. Every day may not always be the best day, but only we have the power to turn that around and make ourselves feel just a little bit better. 5 Ways To Relax and De-stress After A Long Day

Lately I have noticed how I seem to be a lot more tired and worn out during the end of the day. I also tend to get stressed out very easily which doesn’t help me in the slightest. I am all for finding new ways to de-stress and relax for the evening ahead ready for another day tomorrow. I wanted to share some of the way I personally like to take when it comes down to relaxing and de-stressing, hopefully some of these can help you too.
Bubble Baths
There’s nothing better than coming home from a hard and stressful day at work and getting straight into a warm bubble bath. Not only does it help to relax your muscles but it’s also a great way of having some ‘alone’ time with yourself to think. I much prefer baths rather than showers 99% of the time and I usually end up laying there for about 30 minutes reading a good book or listening to music. Let’s just say, I come out looking like a prune.

Spend Time with Your Loved Ones
Whether it’s your significant other, parents or brothers and sisters. Spending some quality times with the ones you love can immediately make you feel 100x better! I love coming home from a stressful shift and getting to see my boyfriend most evenings or even snuggling up on the sofa with the family to watch a film, it’s all just a great stress buster.

Tea, Tea and Even More Tea
I’m not the biggest coffee fan. I’ve tried to like coffee but it just isn’t working out for me. Though I am a great fan of tea. Any kind. The amount of tea I drink daily is kind of a slight problem but it really does help to relax me. After a bubble baths, I love to make myself either some green tea or just a regular English tea – depends on what I fancy that day. I like snuggling up in bed with my good old cuppa whilst reading a book. God, I sound old.

Write In a Journal
After having a stressful day, you’re probably thinking the last thing you want to do is write, but it honestly helps. I have multiple notebooks and journals just because I’m simply stationary obsessed. One of my journals is sort of a ‘daily thoughts’ if you will. I like to sit down at the end of the day and just write about my day, how it was and how it made me feel. Any negative energy will get released from your mind and written down into a book. I suffer with anxiety, and when I was doing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, this was the main thing that helped me out the most – whenever I was having a bad day, I’d write down all of my thoughts onto paper and I’d immediately feel better. I’m not saying that this is going to work for everything but it’s definitely something you should try.

Get Enough Sleep
Getting a decent night’s sleep is something I have tried incorporating in my evening routine recently. Normally, I could easily stay awake until 3am scrolling through social media. It was about time that I stopped doing that as I noticed it only caused me even more stress and tiredness the next day. Go to bed earlier and try to get at least 8-9 hours of sleep per night. You’ll feel a lot more refreshed the next day. I would also say to turn your phone off as soon as you get into bed, you’re less likely to constantly check your phone and you’ll actually get tired quicker when you’re not scrolling through your tweets, pins or timeline.

What are some of your personal favourite ways to relax after a long day?
